Who Run the World?
I don’t limit the celebration of women to one day alone, women should be celebrated every single day.
Here’s to strong women: may we know them, may we be them, may we raise them.
Being in Ghana has made me look at women in a whole different way, the strength they show here is unmatched. With a child on their back they carry the weight of their work on top of their heads. They are beautiful and strong and courageous and deserve all the accolades. From mothers, to boss ladies, to entrepreneurs, to students, and hard working women and the list goes on and on.
From little girls to elderly women, there’s beauty in every stage of girlhood to womanhood.
Being a girl, you sometimes (or very often) get told what to do and what not do. The phrase “a girl doesn’t do that” is spoken out repeatedly causing restrictions to form in ones mind, restrictions and rules that we go by even long after we have passed our infant years. We have full grown women, carrying things with them that were instilled within them when they were younger. Trauma, mediocrity, a false sense or no sense of worth, co dependency just to name a few while the other side of the coin shows women who know their worth and because they were told at a young age how great they are.
The way we treat and raise girls is now more important than ever.
Little girls with dreams become women with ambition.
Girls are the future.
In us celebrating women, it is imperative to lay the foundation with the celebration of girls.
Love,
Maame
