Try Again

If at first you don't succeed, dust yourself off and try again. You can dust it off and try again, try again.

Aaliyah

Aaliyah would have turned 41 today, and her legacy continues to live on. Rest in peace babygirl !

Aaliyah sang it best and boy was she right!

There are without doubt certain things that just need to be left behind. Forgotten, locked up in a cage somewhere with the keys thrown into the ocean. (Yes, that bad.) But failing at something the first time does not mean it was not meant for you. In some cases (not all) it just means we are not ready yet, in others it means that our approach just wasn’t the right one. Giving up on something that could have the potential to change our lives or the lives of other people is a regret that no one wants to carry around. Motivation can turn into mediocrity in a split of a second. Especially with the new year here. We are all on fire. Burning with passion to start a healthier habit and get rid of the self sabotaging ones. It’s easy to give up, but change and growth do not come to those who throw in the towel. But those who get back up again and wipe their sweaty foreheads with it.

I have had plenty of moments where I felt like I couldn't possibly go any further. Moments as in last week Friday when I was in over my head with assignments and wasn't delivering the way I had envisioned to deliver, I was seriously ready to just say "I'm done" and give it all up. Uni will have you questioning your whole existence sometimes (can I get a witness?) but on a serious note: when you have been doing something for a while and the end does not seem anywhere close it is so easy to just give up but that's the exact point where you should push even harder (shout out to Babzy for setting me straight just when I needed it the most), seriously surround yourself with people who will kick your butt when you attempt to drop out of the race, who will pour water over you, just to get your head back in the game and who will cheer for you when everyone else is silent and you don't have the strength or the will to cheer for yourself.

Your hardest times often lead to the greatest moments of your life. Keep going. Tough situations build strong people in the end.
