Backstage Stories

The reason we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind-the-scenes with everyone else's highlight reel.

Steven Furtick

There is a highlight section on the gram, allowing us to highlight certain photos, videos, content in general, stories for everyone to be able to keep coming back to. We rarely show our tired faces right after we wake up in the morning in those highlights. There are endless filters to hide what we consider to be our flaws and what we may or may not be insecure about. We sometimes write captions that do not reflect the way we feel inside.

It is mostly about showing others what we want them to see, how ironic is it then that we compare ourselves to someone showing us goals on the gram but going through a low in real life?

Getting access to someones behind-the-scenes makes you see that everyone is going through it, one way or the other. How life is full of ups and downs for e v e r y o n e, no exception. There is no special treatment when it comes to life, no real vip section because everyone can be hit by tragedy and no one is larger than life, no matter how large we live.

There is a great importance now more than ever to stay in touch with reality, especially our own. Not loose sight of what is important because we are looking at what others are doing - or better yet seeing the small fraction of what they're actually doing. Especially with a new year and all those expectations we mostly put on ourselves it is easy to get lost in the who did what and who has what of social media, tapping ahead and scrolling up and down, forgetting how much we have achieved in the past and are currently achieving and working on achieving.

Recently DaBaby tweeted something that had some thinking and others bashing him. But nevertheless I thought it was a great thought that should be given some attention, some inward reflection if need be, and trust me, there is a need:

If social media wasn’t such a lucrative tool in the business I’m in. I wouldn’t even be on it. Lost souls influenced by lost souls. I hate to see it. I encourage people to have the courage to find themselves without the false sense of security they search for on the internet.
